Dr. Arup Acharjee is an accomplished researcher and academic with a diverse background in the field of Zoology. He holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at the prestigious University of Allahabad. Driven by a passion for understanding the intricacies of life sciences, Dr. Acharjee has dedicated his career to unraveling the mysteries of molecular biology, neuroendocrinology, and proteomics.
Dr. Acharjee's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology (Honours) from The University of Burdwan, Bardhhaman, India. Building on this foundation, he pursued a Master of Science in Zoology, specializing in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, from Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India. It was during this time that he developed a keen interest in the intersection of biology and molecular techniques.
Driven by his curiosity and determination to contribute to scientific knowledge, Dr. Acharjee embarked on a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Zoology at Banaras Hindu University. His doctoral research focused on molecular cloning, gene expression, and the reproductive biology of stinging catfish species. Through his investigations, he made significant contributions to understanding the regulation of gonadotropin subunit genes and their impact on reproductive processes in fish. This research laid the foundation for his expertise in molecular biology and proteomics.
Following the completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Acharjee continued to expand his research horizons through various prestigious research positions. He served as a UGC Dr. DS Kothari Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Zoology, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University. During this period, he further honed his skills in proteomics and gained valuable insights into host-pathogen interactions, particularly in the context of COVID-19 pathogenesis.
Dr. Acharjee's pursuit of scientific excellence led him to join the renowned Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay as a Research Scientist in the Proteomics Lab within the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering. Here, he leveraged his expertise in proteomics, big data analytics, and molecular biology to explore the role of omics technologies in understanding complex biological processes, such as genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
Currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at the University of Allahabad, Dr. Acharjee continues to push the boundaries of scientific knowledge. His research focuses on proteomics, neuroinflammation, and machine learning, with an emphasis on understanding the impact of systemic inflammation on brain function using murine models. Dr. Acharjee's lab aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying sepsis-associated encephalopathy and investigate the effects of prenatal inflammation on the fetal brain proteome, providing critical insights into neurodevelopmental disorders.
With numerous publications in esteemed scientific journals, Dr. Acharjee's research has garnered recognition and acclaim within the scientific community. His expertise in molecular biology, proteomics, and bioinformatical tools positions him as a leading expert in his field.
